Patient Care

  1. Responsible for assisting the physician (s) in the care of patients to assure optimal medical care.
  2. Prepares patient for physical examination/surgery
  3. Assists physician(s) in the physical examination/surgery of the patient
  4. Takes patient histories. Obtains and documents information relating to drug allergies in prominent place on the label located on the front of the chart and on the patient history form.
  5. Prepares patients for surgical procedures
  6. Sets up surgical room for appropriate procedure (s)
  7. Assists physician (s) with surgical procedure (s)
  8. Obtains patient consent form/authorization before surgery
  9. Responsible for patient education. Hands out educational pamphlets, gives care instructions verbally. Hands out postoperative instruction sheets and preoperative instruction sheets
  10. Answers patient questions on telephone and take written notes of conversation
  11. Gives injections/local anesthesia per physician(s) instruction
  12. Maintains clean, safe and well stocked examination rooms for patient care at all times
  13. Maintains, clean, safe and well stocked operating rooms for surgical procedures at all times
  14. Keeps necessary logs documentation for patient recalls
  15. Photographing and recording patient photographs
  16. Postoperative calls and liaison between physician (s) and patient
  17. Other duties, as deemed necessary

General Duties

  1. Assist in general housekeeping duties including weekly scrub down of all patient examination rooms, etc.
  2. Preceptor to new nursing personnel, as needed
  3. Sterilizes surgical instruments using appropriate method, e.g., steam, chemical, ultrasound, etc...
  4. Assist in scheduling patients for lab tests with outside diagnostic centers or hospitals
  5. Charts in medical record as appropriate
  6. Calls in prescriptions per physician(s) instruction
  7. Must attend all staff meetings and scheduled in-service programs
  8. Regularly organize drugs

  1. Regularly properly dispose of expired drug samples
  2. Orders medical/surgical supplies as necessary to maintain a well-stocked clinical area as instructed by supervisor
  3. Always maintain a professional appearance
  4. Arrive at work, on time, as scheduled

Job Requirements

  1. Graduation from high school
  2. Graduation from RN program
  3. Current CPR & BCLS certification
  4. Current license or certification
  5. Continuing education activity

Job Relationships

  1. Supervises no other employees
  2. Reports directly to the nurse supervisor and/or practice administrator
  3. Employment subject to a 90 day trial period
  4. 3 weeks notice required for resignation
