Personal summary
Graduating with a Bachelor's in Natural Resources and Wildlife Conservation from the University of Arizona in 2016, Nicole looked began her career in the United States Peace Corps as a Community Environmental Conservation Agent in rural Panama. Her hard skills in environmental policy and ecological science combined with other important skills such as project design and management, communication and leadership abilities, and a strong tendency towards staying organized and detail-oriented. While serving in the Peace Corps, she facilitated the development of a tropical reforestation initiative, resulting in over 1000 trees being planted in previously deforested riparian areas and farms. Additionally, she engineered a community trash and recycling center in partnership with the governmental environmental agency (Ministerio de Ambiente) of Panama, improving the health of the local people and the environment. Nicole returned to the United States after closing her Peace Corps service and began pursuing a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science at Western Washington University. For her thesis research, she investigated the effects of ocean acidification and temperature rise on the thermal tolerance and critical thermal limits of Pacific herring (Clupea Pallasii). As the Principal Investigator, Nicole processed and analyzed extensive data using the coding program R, managed undergraduate interns, taught ecology classes as a Teaching Assistant, and completed a 90-page thesis document, soon to be converted into a publication. Nicole graduated with her Master's degree in August 2022. Her research is now awaiting publication in a well known scientific journal. Education: Masters in Biological and Biomedical Sciences
